Individual Membership and Grading


Membership is open to all those who are involved in or have an interest in operations, production and supply chain management.

Individual membership may be either corporate (Fellow or Member grades) with full entitlement to use the designatory letters after their names and vote at general meetings and in elections, or non-corporate (Associate and Student grades) with no such entitlement.

Applications for corporate grades are placed before the Institute’s Grading Panel, to ensure that they have the appropriate levels of qualifications and experience for the grade of membership requested.

Member MIOM
Member grade is available to those who are 22 or over with either:
(a) at least 5 years experience in operations and materials management, or
(b) who hold the Institute's Diploma (or an equivalent qualification)
and have a minimum of 2 years experience in the field.

Fellow FIOM
Fellow grade is restricted to those over 30 years of age who have contributed significantly to the Institute, or to the profession, and who have either:
a) at least 8 years experience in the field, or
(b) hold the Institute's Diploma, or Advanced Diploma
and have a minimum of 4 years experience in the field.
New applicants to the Institute are not normally admitted to this grade of membership.

Associate
Associate grade is open to anyone over the age of 18 who is interested in operations, production and supply chain management.

Student
Students must be over 18 years of age and either:
(a) pursuing a course leading to one of the Institute's qualifications, or
(b) taking a full-time or part-time course at university/college related to operations management.
There are special low rates for Students on full-time courses.
