Knowledge and Information Web Based Resources Access to areas of the Institute's web site, including online resources such as 'Operations Management' online; an archive of IOM journal articles; and the Knowledge Centre (online access to in-depth databases - including World Newspapers Today), is only available to IOM members. In addition, members can access the Knowledge Bank (an A- Z of Operations Management) and the Career Service. Members can also access recruitment advertisements and can participate in online networking through the IOM discussion forum. 'Operations Management' Magazine 'Operations Management' is circulated to all members (6 issues per year) and contains technical articles, reports and case studies written by practitioners, consultants and academics, as well as industry news and information on the Institute's activities and forthcoming events. It also includes advertisements for jobs, software, training and consultancy services. InfOrMAll members can receive, InfOrM, the IOM email newsletter, either directly or via the web site. Professional Development Qualifications and Awards The IOM's comprehensive and progressive qualifications programme is designed to support members throughout their careers by increasing the knowledge and range of skills required within Operations Management. It is available through accredited Centres and via distance learning using the ROME and Supply Chain Pathfinder packages. The awards include the Certificate in Operations Management, which provides a broad introduction to the field; the Diploma, which develops the individual's knowledge and understanding of practical areas as well as an awareness of personnel and financial issues; and the Advanced Diploma, aimed at those who will evaluate and develop operations management techniques and systems.
In addition, as the International Associate for APICS in Great Britain, IOM offers APICS membership and certification programmes.Short Courses Members can develop themselves and their staff by taking advantage of the Institutes’ public and in-company Short Courses. An extensive public programme is provided for those seeking to improve their knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of operations, production and supply chain management topics. These courses can also be provided on an in-company basis. Networking Seminars and workshops Seminars and workshops are given by speakers from leading manufacturing and service companies on specific areas of operations management. These cater for both the practitioner on the ground and the top level manager and provide an opportunity to increase knowledge and understanding about best practice in industry. Regions and ForumsAs well as the nationally organised seminars and workshops, local Regions and Forums arrange events, including site visits and lectures, at which members can exchange experiences and ideas while keeping in touch with the latest developments and leading practice in other non-competing companies. Such opportunities to network with other practitioners in the field can be accessed by members at all levels. Information on such events is automatically sent to members, who receive priority access. Online Networking The online discussion forum allows individuals to network with other professionals by enabling them to exchange ideas and participate in discussions. Discounts, special rates and money saving offers Members receive discounts on IOM seminars, workshops, training courses and books Members have access to special rates on events run by affiliated organisations (eg IET, CIPS, CILT) Members are entitled to Income Tax Relief on their membership fees.
