Sales & Operations Planning Process

Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) in an organization is a cross functional business process that provides a robust mechanism to balance supply with demand while operating in a constrained world.

S&OP is employed to translate upstream data from front office groups, such as sales and marketing, into actionable and profitable demand plans that can be used by logistics, manufacturing and procurement organizations. When done correctly, S&OP is a collaborative, cross functional process that aligns capabilities and exposes opportunities within a defined business strategy. With out this formal step in the management of business leadership, teams miss the opportunity to shape demand, allocate constrained resources to most profitable products and customers, and refine their supply chain activities for maximum profitability.

S&OP is a cross-functional consensus process that integrates customer-focused marketing plans for new and existing products with supply chain management. The process is performed with formal cross-functional meetings (with sales, marketing, and operations, at a minimum) at least once a quarter (but preferably monthly), and reconciles supply, demand, and new product plans

Technology

SAP xAPP Sales and Operations Planning composite application enables organizations to establish a single, unified plan that drives business operations.

SAP xSOP effectively leverages the planning data from the existing SAP infrastructure, and is an easy-to–implement tool that consolidates data, supplies pre-defined analytics, and assists with managing the sales and operations planning process.

SAP xSOP performs the following functions:

Integrates planning tools and data from multiple sources in a single tool to facilitate sales and operations planning

Streamlines sales and operations planning through built–in process management capabilities

Presents sales and operations planning data in a manner that is relevant to specific roles in the company

Enables managers and others to make and evaluate sales and operations planning decisions by using data aggregated in easily definable reports

Wipro and SAP have entered into a unique “One partnership” alliance on development and implementation of the SAP® xSOP™ (Sales and Operations Planning xSOP) solution.
