I have a student researching quality management in food service operations and specifically looking at the application of Statistical Process Control - as yet little used in this context.

We have a link with industry. Before doing this, he would be able to try out his ideas in the coffee shop we have in our own School of Management building.

The student has no experience of manufacturing or SPC and I am trying to find ways in which he can become familiar with actual implemention on the ground. At the moment everything he knows is from books. Given your contacts in this area, I am wondering if you have any suggestions or advice about how he might get some practical experience?

I believe the cement manufacturers use SPC on their processes and I have some ancient contacts in Erith I could try and warm up at a pinch. Cement making and food production are essentially the same process – stuff in ingredients, give 'em a cook and there you go.
