Training, Development & Qualifications Directory 2012

Welcome to the Training, Qualifications and Development Directory 2011/12

If you want to stand out in today's job market it is essential to have the right blend of experience, skills and training. The Institute offers a range of qualifications and short courses designed to support your development and progression at every stage of your career.

Long-term customer relationships rely on your staff being well trained, with the latest knowledge and skills, giving your organisation the advantage over its competitors. Achieving world class performance requires a commitment to continuous improvement and an investment in the development of people. CILT recognises that companies need a range of options from workshops and short training courses, through to more formal qualifications and compliance training. This year's directory offers something for everyone working in the dynamic field of logistics and supply chain.

Together, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT), The Institute of Operations Management (IOM) and PTRC

provide education, training and development for staff at all levels within the profession. This year's Directory contains a range of interesting and relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities. Whether you are looking to attend a sector-relevant conference or seminar, or whether you would like to develop your skills by participating in a short course or workshop, or want to enrol on a professional qualification, there is something for you or your team.

Supply Chain: covering the entire range of freight and logistics issues, with specialist forums, including construction, defence, postal services, utilities and operations management.

Transport Planning: including central government, local authority and other transport planning specialisms. Our forums cover freight and passenger transport, travel planning and modelling.

Rail: our thriving Rail sector covers both passenger and freight matters, as well as looking at strategic issues, travel planning, local transport, freight forwarding and passenger security.

Active Travel & Travel Planning: covering specific requirements of cyclists and pedestrians, and supporting their needs within the overall infrastructure and environment.

Bus & Coach: our revitalised Bus & Coach Sector gives regular input into Government future strategies and its forums include local transport, travel planning and accessibility and inclusion issues.

Ports Maritime Waterways: covering the interests of all those involved in waterborne transport both domestically and internationally, including freight, trade, port operations, coastal shipping and inland waterways.

Freight Forwarding: covering customs and international trade, by road, rail, sea and air, as well as the overall range of related freight transport matters.

Aviation: covering both freight and passenger matters, together with customs and international trade, and freight forwarding, as well as looking at passenger security.

Whatever stage you are at in your career and whatever your specialism you will find a career development solution within its pages. Institute President, Peter Hendy FCILT, Commissioner, Transport for London, explains why the training and development of staff is so important in his introduction here.

The Institute's short courses provide practical knowledge of the most up-to-date tools and techniques in logistics and transport, and are designed to help improve job performance and support individual career development. The important ‘hot topics' of the day, like lean approaches and carbon awareness, are included, as are quality management systems, MRP and process management data. If you are working or intend to work in humanitarian logistics, then there are practical courses to enhance your skills. More information about short courses are available to download here.

Sometimes, organisations struggle to survive in a competitive environment or a difficult economic climate. The most successful organisations overcome these challenges by constantly adapting to new business circumstances and improving their operations as a result. Doing this effectively relies on businesses securing staff with the greatest level of skill in these areas. To support you in this complex area, CILT and IOM offer you the opportunity to attend a series of interactive taster workshops to help you develop the skills you need to plan for, implement and sustain improvement. More information on the workshops available for 2011/2012 can be downloaded here.

Our qualifications offer professionals at every level and in every sector of industry the opportunity to gain professional recognition of their knowledge and experience. Internationally recognised and accredited by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual), these qualifications are designed to raise standards and to demonstrate both professional and personal achievement. More details of these qualifications can be downloaded here.

Keeping your knowledge and skills up to date in today's fast-changing world of work is vitally important, yet some people find it more challenging to plan and systematically improve their own skills than to set up systems for continuous improvement in the workplace. For this reason, the Institute offers CILT and IOM members guidance and support to help them get the best out of their Continuing Professional Development (CPD). More information about development opportunities is available to download here.

Through our series of lectures, conferences and seminars, CILT, IOM and PTRC provide the opportunity to learn from and meet influential figures from industry, government and academia. All of our events provide the opportunity to network, learn the latest techniques and benchmark against the best in the business. More information about the Lectures, Conferences and Seminars can be found here.
