educational opportunities for UK operations professionals

APICS

APICS The Association for Operations Management is a global leader and premier source of the body of knowledge in operations management. Since 1957, individuals and companies have relied on APICS for its superior training, internationally recognised certifications, comprehensive resources, and a worldwide network of accomplished industry professionals covering all aspects of operations management, including production, inventory, supply chain, materials management, purchasing, and logistics.

The APICS mission statement cements their commitment to the continuous improvement of the industry: “APICS builds knowledge and skills in operations management professionals to enhance and validate abilities and accelerate careers. We help our members and their organisations successfully compete and build a stronger global economy.”

IOM

The Institute of Operations Management (IOM) has been in existence since 1963, originally as two chapters of the then American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) – now knows as APICS the Association for Operations Management – and then from 1975 as an independent organisation called the British Production and Inventory Control Society (BPICS). It changed its name to the Institute of Operations Management in 1996. 

In 2007, the IOM joined with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport in the UK (CILT) and continues to operate separately as a membership body within CILT. In 2009, the IOM joined forces with APICS as an International Associate (IA), to further the operations profession in the UK. An International Associate of APICS promotes the global activities of APICS within the region and administers APICS membership, examination registrations, provides certification, events, seminars and workshops.

Hilf Supply Chain Solutions is a major provider of APICS material to the UK market and is currently the only UK company to be recognised by APICS as an Authorised Education Provider (AEP).
