Growth continues within UK services sectorDespite challenging economic conditions at present, operations management professionals in the services sector may be cheered by data showing it is continuing to expand.

The industry's Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) in the UK stood at 52.1 in November this year, with any figure above 50 indicative of growth.

According to the latest data from Markit and the CIPS, every month this year has seen gains in services, with November's figure rising from 51.3 in October.

However, the report warned that growth is being "undermined by [the] difficult economic climate", employment has fallen at its fastest place in 15 months and new business rose at its slowest rate over the year-to-date.

"Whether or not the economy slides into recession next year depends to a large extent on whether politicians can find a workable solution to the eurozone's crisis," warned Markit chief economist Chris Williamson.

Meanwhile, the PMI for the eurozone in November indicated that the area witnessed a services sector contraction last month, with the index standing at 47.ADNFCR-3058-ID-801230997-ADNFCR
