New NHS Commissioning Board head to focus on continuous improvementThe health secretary Andrew Lansley has announced the incoming chair of the NHS Commissioning Board will focus on continuous improvement within the health service as part of his remit.

He made the statement as he announced Professor Malcolm Grant had been selected as the preferred candidate for the body.

The minister said he was looking forward to Professor Grant bringing his leadership skills to the position as the board "supports the development of clinical commissioning groups and secures for the NHS continuous improvement in the quality of services, reduction of health inequalities and delivers integrated, responsive services".

A qualified barrister and academic lawyer and currently president and provost of College London, Professor Grant is expected to assume his new role at the end of this month.

The NHS Commissioning Board is part of plans by the government to modernise the health service and Mr Lansley recently unveiled plans to alter operations management within the NHS in England in order to provide patients with more choice and information about referrals.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800760653-ADNFCR
