Government outlines new NHS modernisation plansFurther plans have been released by the government as part of efforts to modernise the NHS.

Under the latest proposals from the Department for Health, patients are intended to be placed "at the heart" of the service, with new safeguards planned to protect against privatisation and price competition.

Part of a continuous improvement strategy for the organisation, the proposals are outlined in a new report and include pledges to provide patients and members of the public with a stronger voice, give local authorities a greater say over the NHS and focus on the causes of health complaints as well as treatments.

Issuing the full response to a report on the issue by the NHS Future Forum, the government insisted service users will be placed at the heart of the healthcare organisation and its decision making processes.

"I believe the revised plans we set out today will both safeguard the future of our NHS and ensure it is more efficient and more accountable," health secretary Andrew Lansley declared.

The government has accepted the main recommendations from the independent NHS Future Forum as part of its plans for the health service.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800590442-ADNFCR
