Operations management could assist in government ICT efficiency drive
28 January 2010
The government has unveiled plans to save around £3.2 billion of public money during 2013-14 by reducing expenditure on information technology.
Operations management techniques may well be employed by the public sector to enhance ICT infrastructure and ensure that it is more energy-efficient.
Under the new ICT Strategy, published by the Cabinet Office, a new cloud network will be established to allow bodies to operate from a single network and reduce the number of government data centres in operation.
"We are innovating and revolutionising our ICT systems to ensure that they are as effective and efficient as possible for those working in the public sector," Cabinet Office minister Angela Smith claimed.
The strategy is part of the Smarter Government programme, which targets ways of reducing the public deficit by 2014 by delivering efficiency savings throughout the public sector.
Those interested in operations training courses are also advised that continuous improvement and new efficiencies are being sought through a review of Urban Development Corporations in London, Thurrock and West Northamptonshire.
