Substantial changes forecast for health sector in 2011Next year will mark a year of "immense" change for the UK's health sector, it has been predicted.

This is the conclusion made by a report from Simplyhealth, which has suggested the NHS will undergo the most significant shake-up in the 60 years since it was established in 2011.

The medical insurance specialist explained the coalition government's NHS White Paper marks substantial alterations to the way it is run, placing patients at the heart of the service and encouraging them to "take personal responsibility for their health".

However, according to sales and marketing director Jamie Wilson, the NHS is under "extreme pressure", with budget restrictions, reorganisation plans and job cuts taking place.

In his forecasts for 2011, he warned waiting lists may expand, as managers are forced to make tough choices about local care provision.

Those concerned with continuous improvement in the NHS and the UK's public sector as a whole may also be interested to note that the Department of Health is currently consulting on proposed changes to the NHS.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800311705-ADNFCR
