Operations management innovations sought from NHS staffA new scheme has been launched by the government which is intended to give NHS staff the opportunity to have a say over how patient treatment may be improved.

The Department of Health initiative is part of the Big Society concept and will provide public sector workers with the opportunity to establish social enterprises.

Projects could include ways of enhancing operations management within the health service and care services minister Paul Burstow stated they will help to "plough resources back into the community", using "local know-how on how resources can best be used" by placing NHS staff in charge.

All employees of Primary Care Trusts are being given the opportunity to request to establish social enterprises in two-thirds of Strategic Health Authorities, with a number of schemes, such as a specialist health-visiting programme in Derby, already launched.

Meanwhile, a new Procure 21+ framework has been unveiled by health minister Simon Burns, which is intended to save more than £200 million in NHS procurement costs by streamlining and simplifying current processes.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800014402-ADNFCR
