Operations management at new Jaguar Land Rover plantA new facility that is being established in the UK by Jaguar Land Rover may employ operations management techniques such as lean manufacturing.

The plant will be built in Wolverhampton and will provide 750 new jobs in the Midlands as a result, some of which may be for those holding an APICS qualification.

Under the plans by the automotive giant, £355 million will be invested in the high-value manufacturing site.

The news was welcomed by prime minister Nick Clegg and Vince Cable, the business secretary, who predicted the move will provide a substantial economic boost to the region.

"JLR choosing Wolverhampton for its new engine plant in the face of tough international competition is a tremendous boost for manufacturing in the UK and the West Midlands in particular," Dr Cable stated.

A recent Office for National Statistics report showed there was a 1.9 per cent rise year-on-year in the UK's index of production during July 2011, with manufacturing output rising by 0.1 per cent from June this year.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800733107-ADNFCR
