Nissan operations management policies hailed

Nissan operations management policies hailedCarmaker Nissan is "regarded internationally as an exemplar of manufacturing productivity" and has invested significantly in operations management in the UK.

An article in the Financial Times states that the company has focused on policies such as continuous improvement that have now become mainstream within the sector.

The carmaker has marked 25 years of operation in the UK, with its manufacturing plant in Sunderland opening on September 8th 1986 and some 133 employees from the original workforce still employed at the factory.

Margaret Thatcher attended the official launch and the Wearside facility has undergone substantial change since then, according to the news source, with it challenging "established plants and practices".

Kevin Fitzpatrick, vice-president for UK manufacturing, stated: "I can't contemplate what the north-east would look like without a successful Nissan."

The motor manufacturer was founded in Yokohama, Japan, in 1933 by Nikon Sangyo and Tobata Imono as Jidosha-Seido, with the former taking on sole ownership a year later and renaming it Nissan Motor Company.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800725603-ADNFCR
