Technology change ''not essential to continuous improvement''Companies looking to commit to continuous improvement principles do not have to invest in expensive new technology in order to do so.

This is according to head of the AME Institute Ralph Keller, who explained that the principles are "about making changes to business processes, not necessarily technology".

Writing in Industry Week, Mr Keller, former head of the Association for Manufacturing Excellence noted that substantial gains are possible by simply altering the way in which things are done, such as instigating demand pull manufacturing systems.

He explained that although technology can help to facilitate improvements, it is not a prerequisite and people should not be deterred from their goals by "red herrings" such as this assumption.

Continuous improvement refers to a set of principles that are concerned with enhancing products, services and processes in areas such as cost, delivery and quality. It can be applied in both production and services organisations and should be ongoing.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800771719-ADNFCR
