Government launches new advisory service for manufacturers
14 October 2011
Sales and operations planning specialists may be interested in making use of a new Manufacturing Advisory Service that has been launched by the government.
Aimed at helping small and medium-sized companies in the sector who are looking at ways of improving manufacturers' processes and expanding their operations, the national scheme will cover England.
Business minister Mark Prisk unveiled the service and stated: "Manufacturing contributes half of Britain's exports and has much higher productivity than the rest of the economy so it is essential to our plans for growth."
A new Manufacturing Advisory Consortium (MAC) will deliver the service and will focus on providing strategic and technical support, continuous improvement, enhancing supply chains and apprenticeships.
An estimated 50,000 positions could be safeguarded and a further 23,000 created by the scheme, it has been predicted.
This week, the Office for National Statistics reported that there was a 1.5 per cent year-on-year increase in the UK Index of Manufacturing during August 2011.
