UK ''can innovate in manufacturing''

UK ''can innovate in manufacturing''Britain''s manufacturing businesses can innovate by "thinking of things that no-one else does and building those", one expert believes.

This is the opinion of business author Sahar Hashemi, who suggests the UK can compete against cheaper countries by developing unique areas of production.

The enterprise guru''s comments may be of particular interest to those concerned with improving manufacturing processes and operations management.

Ms Hashemi also highlighted the importance of investment in small to medium enterprises, which she said was "crucial" to the future of the economy and its recovery as they "contribute around 41 per cent to our national income".

Ms Hashemi''s comments follow the latest figures from the manufacturing Purchasing Managers'' Index for April 2010, which show export growth reaching a record peak and the index climbing to its highest level since September 1994.

It stood at 58 in April, with any figure above 50 representing growth, rising from 57.3 in March.ADNFCR-3058-ID-19770861-ADNFCR
