Opel implements operations management programme
25 May 2010
Carmaker Opel has revealed it has agreed on a new Plan for the Future, which includes a continuous improvement programme.
The organisation will implement operations management measures in order to deliver a range of cost savings, with agreements being put in place at sites across Europe.
Representatives of workers and managers have approved the framework agreement, which is intended to provide the firm with a "sustainable future".
It covers the development and launch of new models - including a new small vehicle - in addition to a plan to become an incorporated entity.
Job cuts will take place as part of the cost reduction arrangements and restructuring, while a series of investment and production commitments are made by the firm in return.
"In the end, everyone involved had the best interests of the company in mind," Opel chief executive Nick Reilly said.
"Now we have a common base for profitable growth."
The German automobile group, part of global producer General Motors, recently revealed orders for its new five-door Astra exceeded 150,000 five months after its launch.
