CBI: Government needs to nurture IP framework
4 March 2011
The government needs to work to maintain the UK's high quality intellectual property (IP) framework that has helped to attract businesses operating in the aerospace, pharmaceuticals and commercial goods markets, it has been suggested.
According to the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the country's IP structure is "fundamental" to supporting such sectors.
It called on the Intellectual Property Office to offer more support to small and medium-sized enterprises so they can bring their ideas to market as quickly as possible.
"Intellectual property is a key economic driver and should be considered one of our crown jewels," CBI director-general John Cridland stated.
He urged the government to "set out a clear and unambiguous aspiration" to make the UK a leading destination for companies wishing to create and utilise IP,
The CBI recently noted production in the UK is continuing to recover, with orders from both domestic and overseas firms rising and expansion expected this quarter.
