Manufacturing recovery ''remains on course''The UK's manufacturing recovery is still "on course", despite official figures showing a dip in output during April 2011, operations management specialists are advised.

According to the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), the 1.5 per cent dip in productivity was caused by "special factors" such as the Royal Wedding and the continuing effect of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan on March 11th.

A 1.3 per cent year-on-year increase in output was reported by the Office for National Statistics during April and BCC chief economist David Kern explained that analysts appear to have underestimated the impact of bank holidays and supply chain problems on production.

He explained the organisation's view is that "the manufacturing recovery, though modest, is still on course and remains a crucial element of any sustained UK upturn", adding that the economy remains fragile and it is important to ensure the coming months do not see any setback to its expansion.

Latest ONS figures have shown a two per cent drop in producer input prices between April and May 2011, although such costs were 15.7 per cent higher year-on-year last month.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800576537-ADNFCR
