UK manufacturing ''leading nation''s output''The UK''s manufacturing industry led the nation in terms of output during June this year, a new report has claimed.

Figures published by Bibby Financial Services showed the sector witnessed stabilising conditions in the wake of the recession, something that may particularly interest operations management professionals in the field.

According to the Business Factors Index, production has moved ahead of other industries in terms of positive growth, with output climbing to 107.9 over the month.

In addition, levels of confidence among manufacturing companies showed improvement during the period in question and the index increased year-on-year from 84.9 in 2009 to 95.7 in June 2010.

Although there was a decline in economic momentum during the quarter to June compared with figures for March, Bibby''s UK chief executive Edward Rimmer said: "Promisingly, the Index indicates that there are some green shoots of recovery within the UK economy."

Recent data from the Confederation of British Industry revealed that the UK witnessed a sharp increase in manufacturing output during the three months to July 2010, rising to its highest rate in 15 years.ADNFCR-3058-ID-800009249-ADNFCR
