UK motor manufacturing industry booming

UK motor manufacturing industry boomingThe British manufacturing industry has received a significant boost with the news that production of motor vehicles in the country has risen to a 16-month high.

According to new statistics from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), January was a good month for the industry as continuous improvement was recorded.

Car manufacturing levels increased by 15.6 per cent to reach 127,382 vehicles, while the construction of engines in the UK rose by five per cent. Such figures come on the back of numbers released this week by the Office for National Statistics, which noted that overall manufacturing in the country surged by 0.8 per cent in December.

Paul Everitt, chief executive at the SMMT, said car production is driving the UK market at the moment.
