Manufacturers ''more optimistic about 2010''
18 February 2010
Many UK manufacturers are predicting that the outlook for 2010 is much brighter than that for 2009.
This is according to a Manufacturing Digital article, which predicts that this year will see conditions improve for the sector as the economy starts to recover from the recession.
Writing for the publication, Ian Armitage pointed to recent European data from Markit suggesting that production rose for five consecutive months to December.
The news source conducted its own research and found that manufacturing bosses are more optimistic than they were last year, particularly those operating in the green and renewable energy sectors.
Meanwhile, good operations management and a focus on sustainability means that firms are reducing their costs and their impact on the environment, while also becoming safer.
"The lack of available funds is still causing companies to look into reducing fixed costs and increasing productivity with the same or smaller staffs," Mr Armitage notes.
Employing demand planning policies and inventory control techniques can assist manufacturers looking at ways of generating continuous improvement within their business and taking advantage of improving economic conditions.
