Using ROME as a Reference Tool
Using ROME as a Distance Learning Programme
The ROME programme provides up-to-date information on a wide range of topics in operations management.
In this context, you can use the ROME as an interactive reference tool - as a source of information about the theory and practice of operations management.
The ROME programme also functions as a distance learning programme leading to the IOM's Level 3 Certificate in Operations Management - COM.
Certificate in Operations Management : COM
This is the IOM's NQF level 3 qualification in operations management.
The course of study for the Certificate has been designed by industry to meet the needs of industry. Moreover, it meets the quality standards laid down by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority - the Regulatory Authority responsible for standards in education in England.

Certificate in Operations Management : Assessment
There are two elements to the assessment:
* Assignments - Short, practical assignments which the student carries out in their own workplace.
* Examination - Normally held at the IOM's headquarters in Corby and at selected alternative venues at regular intervals throughout the year.
All assignments and exams are carefully validated by an experienced independent moderator from the IOM's Qualifications and Awards Committee.
How long does it take?
There is no precise or easy answer to this question. As ROME is a distance learning programme, flexibility is built-in. You are free to use ROME when and where you want. The Course has been completed in around 4 months.
Guideline Study Hours
The number of hours you spend using ROME will depend on a number of factors, such as your past experience and exposure to operations management and the supply chain. You may already be very familiar with some of the course content, but some material may be completely new to you.
When students undertake the Certificate in Operations Management in a traditional, college environment, the syllabus normally takes about 72 hours of contact time plus further time spent working on assignments and preparing for the examination. You should use this as a rough guide to the time you should spend using the ROME programme.
Help and Support
ROME is fully supported by the IOM. If you have a technical problem using the programme or a question about course content - help is just an email away.
