Value Stream Mapping

Date of Event Wednesday 15 October 2008
Duration 1 day
Venue Corby, Northants
Details

Value Stream Mapping has become an accepted first step to making effective changes towards Lean Manufacturing. Too often a "paintball" approach has been adopted whereby various techniques are thrown at a problem situation. Although you may eventually cover the wall you waste a lot of paint.

Value Stream Mapping helps identify and coordinate the most appropriate steps, leading to a short term and a medium term clarification of where the operation is going and how to get there.

This is the purpose of this short course. Participants will be shown how to draw current and future state maps, to identify and prioritise problems, and to develop the steps necessary to move to the future state. The course includes video and simulation material and is based on real cases from various sectors.

Topics covered in this course will include:

• The context of value stream mapping: lean thinking
• Internal value stream mapping – current state mapping
• Mapping and implementation
• Internal value stream mapping – developing the future state
• Heijunka scheduling and the future state
• Related mapping tools
• Organising for lean transformation – pre-during- and post-mapping workshops and events
• Supply chain value stream mapping – introduction and cases

This course is aimed at middle to senior managers from all organisational functions, but especially those people working in materials management, kaizen and lean. With the help of hands on exercises, videos, practical games and "discuss your own problem" sessions, participants should leave the course with a confidence in how to value stream map and how to lead a mapping workshop. Delegates will gain significant knowledge in how to visualise and develop "future state" maps as a vital part in planning lean implementation. They will also be aware of many of the pitfalls of practical value stream mapping.
